If you or a loved one is struggling with substance use, such as drugs and alcohol addiction, you’re not alone. Substance use disorders and substance-related problems affect millions of people each year, but the good news is that they are treatable. If you notice any of the following symptoms, reach out to one of 7 helplines in Belgium.

  • Being unable to keep up with daily responsibilities at home, work, or school.
  • Using substances as a way to relieve negative or uncomfortable emotions.
  • Marked changes in attitude and personality.
  • Using illegal means to obtain drugs or alcohol.
  • Neglecting hygiene and personal appearance.
  • Being secretive and dishonest about when and how often you use drugs or alcohol and with whom.
  • Spending a lot more time alone or with a new social circle.
  • Having a short temper and being more irritable and aggressive than usual.

It can be difficult to admit that you have a substance abuse problem and that you need help. It takes a lot of strength to take the first step, but when you do, you'll be that much closer to healing and recovery.
