Watching a loved one experience what resembles an emotional crisis can be hard. It's normal to be worried and to wonder how and whether you can help. There are 2 hotlines in Burundi that you can contact for free advice, if your loved one is experiencing any of the following:

  • They seem to have a “I don’t care” attitude.
  • They seem secretive, like they're hiding something.
  • They have suddenly lost or gained a lot of weight.
  • They reject invitations to spend time together or hang out.
  • They are not doing activities that they used to do before.
  • They have told you they are struggling emotionally.
  • They have started posting worrying content on social media.

When someone you love opens up to you about difficult thoughts and feelings, not knowing how to respond is very normal. Yet it can make you feel helpless and cause you distress. Fortunately, there are lots of simple ways you can show your support.
