It's normal to be concerned when it seems like someone you care about is not acting like their usual self. You may wonder whether they are struggling with their mental health. 31 helplines are available in Ontario, Canada to offer you support and advice. Feel free to reach out if these signs seem familiar:

  • They are easily startled.
  • They seem to have a “I don’t care” attitude.
  • They seem secretive, like they're hiding something.
  • They have suddenly lost or gained a lot of weight.
  • They reject invitations to spend time together or hang out.
  • They are not doing activities that they used to do before.
  • They have told you they are struggling emotionally.
  • They have started posting worrying content on social media.

You may be unsure of how to support a loved one who is emotionally distressed. It can make you feel helpless to watch someone you care about suffer. There are ways you can be there for your loved one that are simple yet powerful.

Contacting a helpline in Ontario, Canada can put you in touch with a compassionate counselor. A helpline counselor can offer you helpful advice for supporting a loved one you're concerned about. You can also get help for any difficult emotions you may be experiencing as a result of your loved one's behavior.
