Are you experiencing abuse or domestic violence? Contact a hotline in England for support

Many women, children, and men in the world are victims of domestic abuse– this is any behaviour that maintains control over a spouse, partner, family member, or girlfriend/boyfriend. Abuse may be expressed physically, emotionally, verbally, sexually, or financially, and you may feel threatened, controlled or coerced.

Setting free from an abuser may feel impossible. You are probably terrified and feel trapped. However, many victims of abuse and domestic violence have made it. With the help of 17 hotlines in England that support with abuse and domestic violence, you can live without having to endure these symptoms of abuse:

  • Fear of your partner/family member much of the time
  • Feeling like you can’t do anything right for your partner/family member
  • Being forced to have sex or perform other sexual activities that you don’t want to
  • You are being isolated from friends and family members
  • Your partner/family member is acting excessively jealously
  • Your partner/family member blames you for how they behave
  • Being exposed to intimidation and coercion
  • Any form of physical harm (hitting, slapping, strangling, kicking, burning, cutting)

You might feel completely alone if you are a victim of abuse and domestic violence. Many people in your position tend to hide what they are experiencing. However, know that it is nothing to be ashamed of. The abuse and everything about it is absolutely not your fault.

There is no universal recipe for setting free from abuse and domestic violence. However, know that many women, children, and men in England have made it. The first step in the process is opening up to a trusted and understanding person. Then, you can find your way out.

If you feel like you might need support today, try reaching out to a hotline in England. It's free and confidential.
