Get free, confidential support from a depression hotline in Ireland

Depression can look different in different people, but it is generally experienced as a low mood that continues for at least two weeks. If you're depressed you may feel sad, hopeless, and unmotivated.

In Ireland, there are 10 free hotlines that support people experiencing the symptoms of depression. If you notice these signs of depression, consider reaching out:

  • You lost interest in things you used to enjoy and find important
  • Any task you undertake feels exhausting, and you are not as efficient as before
  • You feel sad and about to cry all the time
  • You lost your sexual appetite
  • You feel worthless and deserving of disgust
  • You could be contemplating suicide
  • You might be unable to sit still
  • Your mood has worsened in the recent weeks

These signs of depression can feel confusing and scary. It is normal to feel out of place. However, with the right kind of support, you can begin to feel hopeful and positive about your life and future again.

Depression can make you feel worthless, like you don't deserve or are beyond help. But this is not true. You deserve help and support from people who care about your situation. Helpline volunteers and counselors in Ireland care about what you're going through, want to support you, and help you find a path forward.
