Do you dread the thought of going to school or work? Contact a free hotline in Ireland for support.

School and work are realities that few of us can avoid. When problems there become unbearable, it's easy to feel like you are somehow to blame. We are all unique. What’s easy for some may be trickier for others. There are 8 helplines in Ireland to reach to for support if you are experiencing any of the following:

  • Feel stressed and overwhelmed by the quantity or content of homework, tasks, assignments and projects.
  • Have powerful feelings of anger, defiance, frustration, rebellion and the sense that this is unfair.
  • Have intense school or work related anxiety, stress, fear or worry.
  • Often absentee yourself for headaches, flu, injuries and stomach bugs that you don’t really have.
  • Feel isolated, withdrawn and constantly tired at school or work.
  • Feel so trapped and powerless about school or work that you consider suicide or self-harm.
  • Avoid interacting or working on tasks by withdrawing, sleeping or hiding in the rest room.
  • Feel overwhelmed by lessons, tasks and activities and unable to handle the stress.

Difficulties at school or work can have a domino effect. Specific issues such as pressure from teachers or managers, undiagnosed learning disabilities, poor vision or hearing, bullying and social anxiety can end up impacting every aspect of your daily experience at school or work – but you are not alone.

Distress at school and work should never get in the way of your ability to learn, perform, interact or thrive. You have the potential to succeed, but you need support. If your concerns and negative feelings persist for weeks, months or longer, it might be time to reach out to a volunteer or counselor at a helpline in Ireland for support.
