Concerned about a loved one's mental health? Contact a hotline in India for guidance.

Watching a loved one experience what resembles an emotional crisis can be hard. It's normal to be worried and to wonder how and whether you can help. There are 8 hotlines in India that you can contact for free advice, if your loved one is experiencing any of the following:

  • They have suddenly lost or gained a lot of weight.
  • They have told you that they are having trouble sleeping.
  • They are struggling at school or work.
  • They have become more withdrawn.
  • They seem secretive, like they're hiding something.
  • They have mentioned that they have the intention to hurt someone else.
  • They have started talking in a slow, low voice without much expression.
  • They have stopped caring about their physical appearance.

If you've noticed a change in a loved one's attitude or behavior, it can be scary. It's normal to feel worried and unsure about what you can do to help. Simply being there for your loved one, even in small ways, can be extremely valuable.

If you feel alone in supporting a loved one through a crisis, then reaching out to a helpline volunteer in India could help. A helpline volunteer will offer you trusted advice on how to be there for the person you care about while looking after yourself at the same time.
