Need advice on how to support a loved one? Contact a helpline in Iceland today.

Watching a loved one experience what resembles an emotional crisis can be hard. It's normal to be worried and to wonder how and whether you can help. There are 2 hotlines in Iceland that you can contact for free advice, if your loved one is experiencing any of the following:

  • They are easily startled.
  • They seem secretive, like they're hiding something.
  • They are struggling at school or work.
  • They reject invitations to spend time together or hang out.
  • They have told you they are struggling emotionally.
  • They always seems to be down or in a low mood.
  • They have started posting worrying content on social media.
  • They have become more withdrawn.

You may be unsure of how to support a loved one who is emotionally distressed. It can make you feel helpless to watch someone you care about suffer. There are ways you can be there for your loved one that are simple yet powerful.

If you contact a hotline in Iceland, you'll be connected to a knowledgeable volunteer, peer or counselor who can help. They can talk you through different ways of supporting a loved one and provide you with referrals if needed. They can also help you find ways to cope with your own distress.
