If you're in New Zealand and you're struggling with anxious thoughts, experiencing a panic attack, or think you may have anxiety, there are people who can help. There are 13 helplines in New Zealand that help with anxiety. Anxiety is common and you're not alone in what you're experiencing – no matter how confusing or overwhelming it may feel. Anxiety symptoms may present like any of the following:

  • Shutting off in situations where you feel threatened
  • Feeling like you're in danger
  • Scary thoughts that feel like they came out of nowhere
  • Restlessness, fidgeting, or can't seem to sit still
  • Trembling, sweating, or feeling clammy
  • Suddenly feeling hot or cold
  • Changes in appetite
  • Increased heart rate

These thoughts and feelings are normal for someone experiencing anxiety. Even at a mild level, they can have an impact on the way you cope with day-to-day life. For some, these feelings are so intense that you may feel like you are dying or completely losing control.

Tackling these thoughts and feelings on your own can be really difficult, but it's important to know that there are ways to manage your anxiety. There are people in New Zealand who understand and want to help you get through this.
