Get free, confidential support from a depression hotline in New Zealand

Depression is a common mental health problem that affects millions of people worldwide. When you're depressed you feel sad on most days and you may find it difficult to keep up with life's demands.

If you're in New Zealand and experiencing these symptoms, there are 12 helplines ready to help:

  • You feel down in the dumps
  • Sometimes, you feel empty inside
  • You cannot concentrate and have difficulties memorizing things
  • Things that used to bring you joy mean nothing to you now
  • You feel sad and about to cry all the time
  • You have lost energy and feel tired all the time
  • You don’t care for your hobbies or work
  • You could be sleeping excessively

Experiencing the symptoms of depression can be the greatest challenge of your life. Nonetheless, many people in your position have successfully got through it and built a better life. Depression may feel lonely, but you are far from alone in experiencing what you are feeling.

Talking about how you feel when you're depressed is hard. You may not want to burden other people with your problems. But it's important to recognize that this is your depression talking. There are helpline counselors and volunteers in New Zealand that want to listen and offer you the loving support you need.
