Healing after a loss takes time. The pain of the loss can feel so intense that you don't know how to cope or where to turn. Talking openly about the loss can help you feel better. In New York, United States there are 15 support lines you can contact. Grieving can look like:

  • Feeling like there's a pit in your stomach
  • Feeling regret about things that were left unsaid
  • Feeling guilty about not having prevented the death or loss
  • Emotional exhaustion and extreme fatigue
  • Preoccupation with the loss and with reminders of your lost loved one
  • Increased anxiety about the future
  • Anger and blame directed toward yourself, others, or God for not preventing the loss
  • Relief if your lost loved one had a painful or debilitating illness

Grief and loss can bring up a diverse range of emotions. You may feel sad, angry, shocked, guilty, relieved, and scared all at once. This is a normal response but it can be confusing and make you feel alone.
