Contact a helpline in New York, United States to get support for an unexpected or distressing pregnancy.

Pregnancies that are unplanned or have doubts attached to them happen almost as often as planned pregnancies. So while you may feel alone, what you're experiencing is quite common. If you relate to any of the following and you're not sure what to do next, contact one of 14 hotlines in New York, United States:

  • Feeling alone, like you have nobody to turn to for advice or support.
  • Feeling anxious about how your body and health will be affected depending on your choice.
  • A fear of being judged if you try to talk about the pregnancy and your options.
  • Being concerned about whether you'd make a good parent.
  • Strong feelings of guilt and shame about wanting to end the pregnancy.
  • Feeling regret like you made a big mistake.
  • Experiencing a sense of urgency, like you need to make a decision as soon as possible.
  • Worried about how and whether you could raise a baby with the father.

Not every woman will respond to an unplanned pregnancy in the same way. Some women may feel devastated, while others may feel indifferent, and others feel happy – or a combination of all three. There's no shame in feeling the way you do, whatever that looks like.

Finding out you're pregnant when it wasn't planned or if you're having doubts about certain aspects can put you in a difficult position. If you're not ready to tell anyone about it, you may feel alone. However, helpine counselors and volunteers are available in New York, United States to offer a listening ear and zero-judgment support, no matter where you are in your decision-making process.
