The Women's Support Centre service is a combined service aimed at helping women who have fallen victim to violence against women escape violence and achieve independent living by providing a safe environment and counselling and, if necessary, safe temporary accommodation for both the woman and her accompanying children. Violence against women is a violation of women's human rights and a form of discrimination against women; it means all acts of gender-based violence that result in, or have the potential to result in, physical, sexual, psychological or economic harm or suffering to a woman, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life. The shelter offers comprehensive support to women trying to break out of the cycle of domestic violence. This includes a 24/7 helpline, a safe place for mental and physical recovery, psychological and legal assistance.
