About National Freephone Careline

Our confidential, friendly and supportive national Freephone Careline offers a listening ear and practical guidance for family carers who care for loved ones with physical or intellectual disabilities, frail older people, those with palliative care needs or those living with chronic illnesses, mental ill-health or addiction. Can help with issues including health; emotional wellbeing; finances; work/education; the caring role; life at home. Can also provide advice and guidance on rights and entitlements including Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit/Leave, Carer’s Support Grant, Domiciliary Care Allowance and Home Support Grants. Careline Team can signpost family carers who need additional support to Support Centres located throughout the country. Further support provided by Family Carers Ireland includes free counselling, emergency care planning, respite and emergency respite, training and education, peer support groups, membership, information booklets, e-learning modules, information on your rights and entitlements, young carer support and more.

Accessibility notes

Careline hours are 9am to 5:30pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 5pm on Friday. The Samaritans take calls from family carers who wish to speak to someone outside of these hours.
