Depression is one of the most common mental health problems, affecting about 13% of people worldwide. Depression can affect people differently, but common feelings associated with depression include sadness, hopelessness, worthlessness, and guilt.

If you notice any of the following symptoms of depression, there are 5 hotlines in Nigeria that provide support for people like you:

  • Things that used to bring you joy mean nothing to you now
  • Your mood has worsened in the recent weeks
  • You could feel slower in your movement, speech, and reactions than usual
  • Your weight has changed alongside your emotions
  • Your appetite and eating habits have changed
  • You might be unable to sit still
  • You became irritable for no reason
  • Even the smallest tasks take too much effort

We are all at risk of developing depression. Many people around the world have been where you are right now. The symptoms of depression can, however, make our lives miserable. Luckily, there is a way out of that dark place.

Depression can make you feel like a burden to others so you may be hesitant to ask for help.
