Self-harm helplines are available in Switzerland

Self-harm may offer you relief from painful emotions in the moment, but it can leave you feeling worse afterward. It cannot solve your problems or remove the source of your pain. If you struggle with the following, you can get help from one of 5 in Switzerland:

  • Feeling like you're addicted to pain or hurting yourself
  • Feeling the need to escape or numb your feelings
  • Not wanting to die, but still feeling like you need the pain
  • Taking part in high-risk activities, disregarding safety
  • Searching for ways to self-harm
  • Feeling like your emotions are too difficult or overwhelming to deal with
  • Feeling like your head is spinning with thoughts and there's no other option to make it stop
  • Feeling like you're worthless

Self-harm is more common than you may think, but it's not talked about much. It’s normal to look for ways to manage intense emotional pain. When you’re under extreme emotional pressure, self-harm can seem like the only way to relieve it.

There are compassionate counselors and volunteers in Switzerland who care about what you're going through. Helpline staff are properly trained to support people who self-harm You can talk openly to them and receive understanding, warmth and zero-judgement.
