Reach out to a self-harm helpline in Ireland today.

It can be hard to control the urge to intentionally harm yourself, especially if hurting yourself helps release intense negative emotions. However, it’s important to get help when you’re ready because self-harm carries risks. There are 9 hotlines in Ireland that can help. Reach out if you experience the following:

  • Imagining hurting yourself
  • Avoiding people you care about so they don't find out
  • Searching for ways to self-harm
  • Feeling drawn to sharp objects, or items you could harm yourself with
  • Feeling like your emotions are too difficult or overwhelming to deal with
  • Feeling like you're addicted to pain or hurting yourself
  • Craving physical pain as a distraction from overwhelming emotions
  • Feeling like self-harm is the only thing keeping you going

It’s normal to look for ways to relieve strong, negative emotions. Although it’s not talked about much, self-harm is a common strategy people use to deal with emotional turmoil. It may not seem like it, but there are other, healthy ways to deal with the pain you're experiencing.

Talking about how you feel can be difficult,, especially if you tend to bottle things up. But talking can offer you a healthy alternative for releasing negative emotions. Helpline counselors in Ireland want to listen to you and support you. They can help you find ways to feel better without hurting yourself.

If you are ready to talk to someone about self harm, you can contact a hotline in Ireland for free and confidential support.
