If you're unhappy with the way your body looks and it's affecting how you feel from day to day, you may be at risk for developing an eating disorder. Perhaps you're already experiencing eating problems. If you have any of the following symptoms, reach out to one of 7 hotlines in Manitoba, Canada.

  • Eating large portions of food and being unable to control yourself or extreme food restriction.
  • Lying to others about whether you have eaten so you can skip meals.
  • Distorted body image: thinking you’re overweight when you’re a normal weight or underweight.
  • Withdrawal from social activities, especially ones that involve food and eating.
  • Experiencing strong negative emotions when thinking about your body.
  • Feeling guilty, ashamed, and disgusted after eating too much or after eating the “wrong” foods.
  • Being overly cautious of food portion size, especially about eating "too much."
  • Growth of a fine layer of hair on the body called lanugo.

You may feel bad about how far your disordered eating has gone. Disordered eating and poor body image can cause feelings of shame and guilt. Often, these feelings make people want to withdraw from others.
