Watching a loved one experience what resembles an emotional crisis can be hard. It's normal to be worried and to wonder how and whether you can help. There are 10 hotlines in Austria that you can contact for free advice, if your loved one is experiencing any of the following:

  • They always seems to be down or in a low mood.
  • They are easily startled.
  • They don’t seem to be keeping up with their daily responsibilities.
  • They have harmed themselves.
  • They seem irritable and their moods are unpredictable.
  • They have become more withdrawn.
  • They are struggling at school or work.
  • You don’t hear from for days or weeks, when you used to hear from them often.

When someone you love is suffering, it can hurt you too. If you don’t know how to help, it’s normal to feel powerless. You can be there for your loved one in small ways and still make a big difference.

If you're worried about a loved one's mental health and you're not sure what to do, help is available. You can contact a hotline in Austria and get support from a volunteer who cares. A helpline volunteer can guide you in how to help a loved one who is struggling.
