Are you experiencing abuse or domestic violence? Contact a hotline in Colombia for support

Domestic abuse is any action intended to control or keep power over a spouse, partner, family member, or girlfriend/boyfriend. The abuse may take the form of something physical, or it may be emotional, verbal, sexual, or financial. You might feel threatened, controlled, or belittled.

Setting free from an abuser may feel impossible. You are probably terrified and feel trapped. However, many victims of abuse and domestic violence have made it. With the help of 6 hotlines in Colombia that support with abuse and domestic violence, you can live without having to endure these symptoms of abuse:

  • Your partner/family member blames you for how they behave
  • Your partner/family member has told you they will commit suicide if you leave
  • Your devices are being monitored or tracked by a partner/family member
  • Being forced to have unsafe sex
  • You are being threatened that your children will be taken away from you
  • Any form of physical harm (hitting, slapping, strangling, kicking, burning, cutting)
  • You are embarrassed for your close ones to see how your partner/family member treats you
  • You feel threatened all the time

Victims of abuse and domestic violence can be in a difficult position. They once had (or still have) love for the abuser. On the other hand, they are constantly exposed to harm from someone who should love them back. This can feel puzzling and scary.

It’s normal if you feel isolated. Victims of abuse and domestic violence are exposed to extreme stress and often go through it alone. Even though it might feel difficult to share what you are going through, hotline staff in Colombia will listen, try to understand – and help you.
