School and work are realities that few of us can avoid. When problems there become unbearable, it's easy to feel like you are somehow to blame. We are all unique. What’s easy for some may be trickier for others. There are 3 helplines in Kenya to reach to for support if you are experiencing any of the following:

  • Pretend to be sick, hurt or busy to avoid attending classes, school or work.
  • Constantly feel tired, withdrawn and depressed, wishing you could be anywhere but at work or school.
  • Often feel overwhelmed, anxious, restless and unable to relax or concentrate.
  • Are unable to understand, follow or complete the days lessons, tasks or activities.
  • Have thoughts of violence, self-harm or suicide because you feel trapped by school or work.
  • Feel so unhappy attending that you regularly find ways to avoid school, classes or work.
  • Have powerful feelings of anger, defiance, frustration, rebellion and the sense that this is unfair.
  • Have intense school or work related anxiety, stress, fear or worry.

If daily troubles at school or work are affecting your mental wellbeing, you’re not alone. Many people experience social anxiety, with difficulty interacting and fitting into groups. Others have trouble staying organised, comprehending lessons and tasks, or even remaining still and focused when in class or at the office.

Distress at school and work should never get in the way of your ability to learn, perform, interact or thrive. You have the potential to succeed, but you need support. If your concerns and negative feelings persist for weeks, months or longer, it might be time to reach out to a volunteer or counselor at a helpline in Kenya for support.
