Contact a suicide hotline in England for free support

If you're experiencing suicidal thoughts, you're not alone. Suicidal thoughts aren't talked about very much, but many people experience them during their lives. There are 5 suicide hotlines (crisis lines or helplines) in England that can help. If you're not sure what suicidal thoughts look like, they might look like any of the following:

  • Feeling like there is no end in sight to the pain you're feeling
  • Losing your motivation to keep going
  • Making plans for ending your life
  • Feeling like you wouldn't be missed if you were gone
  • Thinking you're going to feel this way forever
  • Looking up information about how to kill yourself
  • Feeling like you can't cope with the pain anymore
  • Feeling deep and constant despair

When you're experiencing severe emotional distress, you may feel desperate to relieve your pain. Suicide is not the answer. It may feel like the only way to manage problems that seem unbearable, but it's not. There are always other options and there is always hope for a better tomorrow.

It's important to know that how you're feeling is normal and that you are not alone. There are trained crisis line volunteers in England who will listen to you and support you. Speaking to a compassionate volunteer may give you that extra bit of hope that you need to keep going.

If you are ready to talk to someone about your thoughts of suicide, you can contact a hotline in England for free and confidential support.
