Watching a loved one experience what resembles an emotional crisis can be hard. It's normal to be worried and to wonder how and whether you can help. There are 2 hotlines in Wellington, New Zealand that you can contact for free advice, if your loved one is experiencing any of the following:

  • They are seeing or hearing things that are not really there.
  • They reject invitations to spend time together or hang out.
  • They have told you that they are having trouble sleeping.
  • They complain about being about being tired all the time.
  • They seem irritable and their moods are unpredictable.
  • You don’t hear from for days or weeks, when you used to hear from them often.
  • They are easily startled.
  • They seem to have a “I don’t care” attitude.

If you've noticed a change in a loved one's attitude or behavior, it can be scary. It's normal to feel worried and unsure about what you can do to help. Simply being there for your loved one, even in small ways, can be extremely valuable.
