Are you worried about a loved one? Contact a helpline in Malawi for support.

Mental health problems are very common, affecting about 13% of the world's population. You may be worried if you've noticed that a loved one's mental health is deteriorating. It's normal to have concerns if you notice the signs below. For help, contact a free helpline in Malawi – there are 4 available to you.

  • They have become highly self-critical.
  • They have started using substances like alcohol or drugs more often.
  • They have stopped caring about their physical appearance.
  • They are easily startled.
  • They complain about being about being tired all the time.
  • They are not keeping up with personal hygiene.
  • They've recently experienced a significant life event like a break up or a death.
  • You don’t hear from for days or weeks, when you used to hear from them often.

When someone you love opens up to you about difficult thoughts and feelings, not knowing how to respond is very normal. Yet it can make you feel helpless and cause you distress. Fortunately, there are lots of simple ways you can show your support.

If you're worried about a loved one's mental health and you're not sure what to do, help is available. You can contact a hotline in Malawi and get support from a volunteer who cares. A helpline volunteer can guide you in how to help a loved one who is struggling.
