Hotline support for eating disorders and body image issues is available in Australia

Being hyper-critical of your body may mean that you have a negative body image. Having a negative body image can escalate into disordered eating. If you're experiencing eating or body image problems, there are 8 free helplines available in Australia. You may benefit from helpline support if you notice these symptoms:

  • Regularly checking your body in the mirror for flaws.
  • Sudden weight loss or weight gain.
  • Feeling guilty, ashamed, and disgusted after eating too much or after eating the “wrong” foods.
  • Missing periods or having irregular periods
  • Trying to control your body weight/shape by vomiting, laxative abuse, or excessive exercise.
  • Distorted body image: thinking you’re overweight when you’re a normal weight or underweight.
  • Dizziness and potentially fainting.
  • Excessive thinking about food, eating, and body weight or shape.

You may feel so ashamed of your body and your eating habits that you want to hide away and disengage from the world. It may be hard to open up about how you're feeling because you may think that you'll be misunderstood.

Taking the first step to talk to someone about what you're going through is hard but the sooner you get help, the sooner you may start to feel better. When you contact a helpline in Australia, a trained helpline counselor will listen to your concerns and offer you the support you need.

For free and confidential support with eating and body image, consider contacting a hotline in Australia today.
