Free helpline support for substance abuse, drugs and alcohol addiction is available in Australia

Substance abuse – such as drug and alcohol addiction – affects millions of people and their loved ones each year. While the impact of substance use disorders and substance-related problems can be devastating, help is available and recovery is possible. Take the first step and reach out to one of 10 hotlines in Australia if you relate to these symptoms:

  • Using illegal means to obtain drugs or alcohol.
  • Spending money on drugs or alcohol despite it being unaffordable.
  • Being secretive and dishonest about when and how often you use drugs or alcohol and with whom.
  • Being unable to stop using drugs or alcohol despite the negative consequences it is causing.
  • Sudden weight gain or weight loss.
  • Feeling an urge to use drugs, alcohol or other substances regularly.
  • Low mood including feelings of hopelessness, sadness or depression
  • Having a short temper and being more irritable and aggressive than usual.

You may feel that your problem with drugs or alcohol has gone too far and that there is no hope for the future. However, substance abuse and addiction are treatable. With the right support, you can recover.

Crisis counselors are available to support you whether you are the one struggling, or whether you're concerned about a friend or family member. You can get free, confidential, zero-judgement support for substance use and addiction from a hotline in Australia.
