Anxiety can be extremely overwhelming and confusing. It's very common to experience anxiety at some point in your life, although what this looks like can vary from person to person. If you're in Australia and you're feeling anxious, worried or fearful, there are 13 helplines who can help. Anxiety symptoms can look like any of the following:

  • Increased heart rate
  • Feeling like something bad is going to happen
  • Feeling like you're in danger
  • Overthinking social situations or conversations
  • Feeling an urge to escape difficult situations
  • Sudden shortness of breath
  • Restlessness, fidgeting, or can't seem to sit still
  • Feeling panicky

These are normal experiences for someone with anxiety. Sometimes you might experience them mildly. Other times your experience of anxiety might be so intense and overwhelming that you feel like you are going to die.
