Struggling with loneliness? Reach out to a helpline for free support in Canada

Loneliness is something that everyone experiences from time to time. But when loneliness doesn't go away, it can start to have a serious impact on your mental and physical wellbeing. If you're struggling with these symptoms of chronic loneliness, reach out to one of 7 helplines in Canada for support.

  • In extreme cases, thoughts of self-harm or suicide.
  • Wanting to connect with others but feeling held back by social anxiety.
  • Feeling disconnected from everyone else.
  • Feeling that nobody "gets" you.
  • Feeling that life is meaningless.
  • Drinking or using substances to cope with negative feelings.
  • Feeling fatigued and low in energy.
  • Increased feelings of stress or anxiety.

Loneliness can be felt whether you spend a lot of time with others or alone. When you feel lonely, you may feel separate from others or like you don't belong. This can be very isolating and cause a lot of emotional pain.

You may be reluctant to ask for help, especially if it feels like nobody will relate to you and understand what you're going through. But getting help can relieve the emotional burden you're carrying and help you feel less isolated. There are compassionate helpline volunteers and counselors in Canada that want to support you.

If you think you might need support with loneliness, consider contacting a helpline in Canada for free, confidential help.
