Contact a helpline in Canada to get support for an unexpected or distressing pregnancy.

Unplanned pregnancies or uncertainties about pregnancy are more common than you may think. Being responsible for what happens next can feel overwhelming and isolating. If you're struggling with the following, there are 6 hotlines in Canada you can contact for support.

  • Worried about how your studies or work will be affected if you go through with the pregnancy.
  • Being concerned about whether you'd make a good parent.
  • Feeling both positive and negative emotions at the thought of going through with the pregnancy.
  • Feeling concerned about your financial situation if you go through with the pregnancy.
  • Experiencing a sense of urgency, like you need to make a decision as soon as possible.
  • Being unsure of how to tell your partner or your family, or whether you should.
  • Worried about how and whether you could raise a baby with the father.
  • Being in a state of shock or denial about the pregnancy.

Not every woman will respond to an unplanned pregnancy in the same way. Some women may feel devastated, while others may feel indifferent, and others feel happy – or a combination of all three. There's no shame in feeling the way you do, whatever that looks like.

If you don't know what options are available to you, or if you're not sure what option is best, a helpline counselor in Canada can guide and support you. A helpline counselor will listen to you without any judgment and will never guilt or manipulate you into choosing something you don't really want.
