Unable to stop gambling? Hotline support is available in New Zealand

If you have a gambling problem, you may have lost a lot of money and jeopardized your relationships. Yet stopping may feel impossible. But just as others before you, you can get your life back on track. If you struggle with the following, there are 10 hotlines in New Zealand that can help:

  • Being unable to stop gambling despite making an effort to stop.
  • Feeling irritable when you've tried to stop gambling.
  • Gambling as a way to relieve negative emotions.
  • Constantly thinking about gambling.
  • Selling personal or family items to get money to gamble with.
  • Experiencing stress and anxiety as a result of your gambling habits.

  • Using borrowed money to gamble.

Feeling as though there is no hope and that nothing can be solved is normal, especially if you have lost a lot to gambling. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. There are others who have overcome their gambling problems and there is hope for you too.

The first step to rebuilding what you've lost, is to reach out for help. That can be hard if you doubt whether anyone can help and whether you'll be understood.
