Struggling with your gender and sexual identity? Get support from a LGBTQ-friendly hotline in New Zealand

If you’re questioning your sexual orientation or gender identity, or if you’re experiencing problems as a result of identifying as LGBTQ, you’re not alone. If you're struggling with any of the below, there are 7 helplines in New Zealand that you can reach out to for support.

  • Feelings of anxiety about not being accepted for who you really are
  • Experiencing homophobia or transphobia from family or friends
  • Feeling like how you are on the outside doesn't represent who you are on the inside
  • Feeling like your sexuality is different from those around you
  • Feeling like there's something wrong with you for not having any sexual desires
  • Feeling sexually attracted to people of the same gender as you
  • Wanting gender-affirming hormone supplements or surgery
  • Feeling constrained by gender norms

Experiencing rejection as a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender person is extremely painful. You deserve to be accepted and loved for who you are. When you’re not, it can take a serious toll on your mental health. If you feel confused, lonely, and even suicidal, your feelings are valid.

If you're experiencing problems because you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, help is available in New Zealand. You can reach out at any time and get connected to a caring LGBTQ-friendly volunteer or counselor. Helpline listeners will offer you respectful, affirming care no matter what you're going through.
