Depression is a common mental health problem that affects millions of people worldwide. When you're depressed you feel sad on most days and you may find it difficult to keep up with life's demands.

There are 10 depression hotlines in Sweden that you can contact for free help if you're experiencing the following symptoms:

  • Your mood has worsened in the recent weeks
  • You feel hopeless and desperate
  • You find it difficult to socialize
  • You might be unable to sit still
  • You feel sad and about to cry all the time
  • You ruminate over all your past mistakes
  • You feel discouraged and pessimistic
  • You lost interest in things you used to enjoy and find important

These signs of depression can feel confusing and scary. It is normal to feel out of place. However, with the right kind of support, you can begin to feel hopeful and positive about your life and future again.

Depression can cause you to feel that things are hopeless and that you won't get better. But depression is a treatable disorder. With the right support, you can find ways to cope and heal. Reaching out to a dedicated volunteer or counselor in Sweden can be a couragous first step.
