In 2012, the School of Human Ecology launched iCALL, an initiative that uses technology to provide mental health support. The iCALL Psychosocial Helpline was established to bridge the substantial gap in mental health care in India. It offers affordable, anonymous, and professional counselling services to individuals experiencing psychosocial distress. The helpline is managed by a team of committed full-time counsellors, each with a minimum post-graduate qualification in counselling or clinical psychology and relevant counselling experience. iCALL's services are available Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., ensuring accessibility and convenience for those in need. The helpline provides free and confidential support over the phone, email, and chat modalities. It is dedicated to providing support for issues related to abuse, domestic violence, anxiety, bullying, mental health disorders, eating and body image, family issues, addiction, gender and sexual identity, grief and loss, loneliness, parenting, pregnancy and abortion, relationships, academic and work-related concerns, self-harm, sexual abuse, stress, substance use, suicide, and supporting a friend or family member dealing with physical illness.
When reaching out, individuals will talk with trained counsellors experienced in helping people in similar situations. The counsellors will listen, carefully examine the individual's narration and feelings, and work with them to address their challenges. Everyone, regardless of age, gender, religious views, or nationality, is encouraged to call and seek support.
