Contact a hotline for eating disorder and body image issues in India today

If you're always disatisfied with the way your body looks and you've tried to control how it looks in harmful ways, then you may have an eating disorder. There are 18 hotlines in India that help with body image and eating problems. If these symptoms sound familiar, reach out for free support:

  • Sudden weight loss or weight gain.
  • Being overly cautious of food portion size, especially about eating "too much."
  • Mood swings due to hormonal imbalances and nutritional deficiences.
  • Monitoring calories consumed very cautiously and paying close attention to food nutrition labels.
  • Shifting food around on your plate so it looks like you’ve eaten more than you have.
  • Growth of a fine layer of hair on the body called lanugo.
  • Trying to control your body weight/shape by vomiting, laxative abuse, or excessive exercise.
  • Comparing your body shape and/or weight to others.

You may feel bad about how far your disordered eating has gone. Disordered eating and poor body image can cause feelings of shame and guilt. Often, these feelings make people want to withdraw from others.

Talking to someone about what you're experiencing can bring up uncomfortable feelings. You may wonder whether a stranger will understand you or how they can help. Crisis line counselors in India are trained to help people cope with problems like yours. They will listen to you, support you, and give you appropriate guidance.

If you think you might need support with disordered eating or body image today, consider contacting a helpline in India for free, confidential help.
