Struggling with your gender and sexual identity? Get support from a LGBTQ-friendly hotline in India

If you’re unsure whether you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, you’re not alone. It’s normal to question your sexual and gender identity. Whether you're questioning and need support, or you’re confident in your identity but you're experiencing other issues, there are 21 hotlines in India that can help you with the following and more:

  • Finding it confusing figuring out who you're attracted to
  • Feeling constrained by gender norms
  • Feeling depressed as a result of struggling with your sexuality or gender identity
  • Feelings of anxiety about not being accepted for who you really are
  • Struggling with being misgendered or wrongly labeled
  • Feeling guilt around wanting to express who you truly are
  • Anxiety around coming out to others
  • Feeling like your sexuality is different from those around you

Confusion, loneliness, and thoughts of suicide are normal when you’re struggling to make peace with your gender and sexual identity. It’s hard to know where to turn and you may be scared that if people know you're LGBTQ, they will treat you badly or differently.

Figuring out your sexual and gender identity can be hard and overwhelming if you're dealing with it on your own. Fortunately, there are LGBTQ-friendly volunteers and counselors in India who can act as your allies and offer you the support that you need.

If you think you might need support with your gender & sexual identity today, consider contacting a helpline in India for free, confidential help.
