Free helpline support for substance abuse, drugs and alcohol addiction is available in California, United States

If you or a loved one is struggling with substance use, such as drugs and alcohol addiction, you’re not alone. Substance use disorders and substance-related problems affect millions of people each year, but the good news is that they are treatable. If you notice any of the following symptoms, reach out to one of 23 helplines in California, United States.

  • Using more of drugs or alcohol than was originally intended.
  • Inability to stop using drugs or alcohol despite repeated attempts.
  • Having a short temper and being more irritable and aggressive than usual.
  • Feeling an urge to use drugs, alcohol or other substances regularly.
  • A loss of interest in activities previously enjoyed.
  • Being secretive and dishonest about when and how often you use drugs or alcohol and with whom.
  • Low energy and fatigue.
  • Sudden weight gain or weight loss.

You may feel that your problem with drugs or alcohol has gone too far and that there is no hope for the future. However, substance abuse and addiction are treatable. With the right support, you can recover.
