Find support for abuse and domestic violence from a hotline in Norway

Domestic abuse is any action intended to control or keep power over a spouse, partner, family member, or girlfriend/boyfriend. The abuse may take the form of something physical, or it may be emotional, verbal, sexual, or financial. You might feel threatened, controlled, or belittled.

If you are experiencing abuse or domestic violence, you do not have to deal with this on your own. Staff from 6 hotlines that support people experiencing abuse and domestic violence in Norway can help. Contact them if these signs of abuse sound familiar:

  • Avoiding certain topics so that you don’t anger your partner/family member
  • Being exposed to intimidation and coercion
  • You feel threatened all the time
  • Feeling like you can’t do anything right for your partner/family member
  • Forcing you to use substances, lead an unhealthy lifestyle, or not take medication you need
  • Your partner/family member has an unpredictable, violent temperament, and they direct the anger at you
  • You are being isolated from friends and family members
  • Feeling helpless, desperate, or emotionally numb

After months or years of abusive behaviour from your partner or family member, you might doubting yourself and your sanity. However, this is your abuser talking. The abuse, and everything associated with it, is not your fault.

You might feel insecure and unsure what the right thing to do in your situation is. Fortunately, there are professionals and volunteers in Norway who have experience helping domestic violence and abuse victims. They could help you find your way towards a better life.
