Are you experiencing abuse or domestic violence? Contact a hotline in Ontario, Canada for support

Many women, children, and men in the world are victims of domestic abuse– this is any behaviour that maintains control over a spouse, partner, family member, or girlfriend/boyfriend. Abuse may be expressed physically, emotionally, verbally, sexually, or financially, and you may feel threatened, controlled or coerced.

If you are experiencing abuse or domestic violence, you do not have to deal with this on your own. Staff from 26 hotlines that support people experiencing abuse and domestic violence in Ontario, Canada can help. Contact them if these signs of abuse sound familiar:

  • Your privacy online being invaded
  • You are being controlled by your partner/family member
  • Your partner/family member constantly checks up on you
  • Feeling helpless, desperate, or emotionally numb
  • Your partner/family member humiliates you, insults you and puts you down
  • Your partner/family member hurts you or is threatening to hurt you
  • Your devices are being monitored or tracked by a partner/family member
  • Being forced to have sex or perform other sexual activities that you don’t want to

Victims of abuse and domestic violence can be in a difficult position. They once had (or still have) love for the abuser. On the other hand, they are constantly exposed to harm from someone who should love them back. This can feel puzzling and scary.
